Funi has made public their first acquisition for this year. They got Claymore. I've been waiting for this day ever since I started hearing that Claymore is an awesome show. Now I can finally check it out when it comes out to dvd or bluray. Yay, I can't wait to find out production news for this. _________________

Same here. Though I'm still waiting for them to release Ouran on DVD. _________________

Finally!
I heard a lot about this series, and since I'm off downloading (I was such a bad child), I never got the chance to check it out.
I agree with Caramello, I'm also waiting for Ouran too. |

I'll be sure to get the boxset, but I haven't liked Funimations new dubs that much lately, so I'm a little wary.. _________________ http://roxyssketches.blogspot.com/

I'll get the boxed set as well, granted for the most part that is the majority of my DVD collection. Only items that went for years with out a box have been collected with out them.
Dont even get me started on Full Metal Alchemist, I'd love to smack Funimations directors for that one. _________________

I feel your pain about Fullmetal...
They also licensed One Piece after 4kids killed it, then they still kept the edited stuff in there... I hate all the voices, not to mention they dubbed one of the theme songs for some reason using the voice actor who was Edward in Fullmetal... why....? _________________ http://roxyssketches.blogspot.com/

I liked the fullmetal dub. I thought Coleen and Mike did a good job directing and the cast gave some good performances. It even won best cast at the American Anime Awards. _________________

I liked the dub, just hated that they took their sweet $#%#%$ time making a boxed set for the series. I waited over 2 years after the full series was out and they never released it as a boxed set (well a limited edition tin, but it was rare and sold out on pre-order). After i finally broke down and bought all of the series (special edition of the movie as well) 2 months later they start releasing the boxed sets that are out now.

xovian, I agree with you on that one. I think it was more along the lines of funi doing what was established in the industry. They release the individual dvds and then the box much later. Nowadays funi is steering into the business model of trying to get a series released as a box instead of singles if possible. That's why the dvd release of Aquarion was cancelled and now they are going to release a box of the first season instead. They are also going to try to do that for other new shows as well as recent shows I think. _________________

Yea, im glad more companies are doing that. It only makes sense, even if it is not always the most profitable for the companies. You don't find US shows released slowly after all, they are released as seasons only. It's about time Anime followed suit. _________________

I'll never get used to dubs, subtitle track only please.
For some reason watching anime in english to me would be like going to an opera in english, it's wouldn't be opera anymore, it would be just a bunch of people shouting at each other on stage
I will admit I have heard dubs that arn't bad, but none that have made me say "wow thats good"
The tone of voice can also COMPLETELY change a charachters personality.
I have seen dubs where just based on voice tone etc, the charachter comes across with a completly differant personality then the original japanese. |

| They do have a tendency to make things "kid like", lets hope they won't make Teresa sounds like some 12 years old. |

The biggest differance is you get to watch the US shows first, then decide if you want to buy.
Box sets are definitely the way to go if you know you like a show.
Problem is people get scared of the risk factor.
What if I spend 60/80/$100 on a box set and I hate it?
It's a lot easier to walk into best buy pick up a dvd and say "well for $20 or so I'll give it a shot"
A high price of a box set might scare people away who would otherwise give the show a shot. |
